We are a small village group who aim to launch an ambitious tree planting project to contribute to the struggle against climate change.
Under the banner 'Right Tree, Right Place, Right Time' our vision is to plant hundreds, perhaps thousands of indigenous trees in and around the village.
In combination with Welford Parish Council we have obtained a National Lottery Grant to carry out a feasibility study that will identify the opportunities to plant trees in the parish.
Please see the documents at the bottom of the page regarding the outcome from the feasibility study and consultation.
We see the benefits as:
- Raising awareness of environmental issues.
- Building on our successful green initiatives such as the Welford Wildlife Project, Great Big Green Week and our Wildlife Orchard.
- Encouraging people to plant heritage trees in gardens and on farmland, bringing villagers together with farmers.
- Offsetting the loss of habitat from ash dieback (Half our mature trees are ash.)
- Increasing the amount of green canopy (Northamptonshire has 8% tree cover compared with 13% in similar areas.)
- Reducing flooding by stabilising the soil.
We will involve the whole community in order to create a legacy for generations to come.
